We’re entering the final stretch. Who are the leaders heading into the finish?
The final stretch is in sight at the European Youth Championships in Tallinn. Did our predictions—and those of the national team coaches—come true? Let’s analyze the events in each group and see how things have changed compared to the overall trends. As usual, at the end of the championship, we’ll provide statistics on each team’s performance based on the number of podium finishes.
In the youngest age group, we favored two draughts players: Ernests Andersons from Latvia and Leo Gancarz from Poland. Our prediction proved entirely accurate, and both players are in the lead after the 6th round. Among the girls, we noted that in the younger age groups, players from Latvia and Poland typically deliver consistently strong results. These predictions are coming true.

In the minicadet group, we favored the following draughts players: Kevin Kurik and Stanislav Ushkov from Estonia, Sven Schakel from the Netherlands, Toms Andersons and Aleksandrs Petrovs from Latvia, and Jan Guzicki from Poland. Our prediction has been partially confirmed. At least four of the players we named are in contention for medals after six rounds. In the girls’ group, we predicted that Alise Misane and Varvara Ivanova from Latvia would lead the pack, and we highlighted the Damari sisters from Italy, while also noting Vivienne Meijer from the Netherlands. The prediction has come true in full, and we’ve once again correctly identified the leaders.

In the senior groups, where talented players are developing their styles and the competition takes place not only on the board but also among the coaching staffs, we noted the following players: Krzysztof Delalicz De Laval from Poland, Alex Ovsyanko from the Netherlands, and Matvey Koliesnikov from Ukraine. And once again, we hit the nail on the head. Two out of the three players are in the lead. Among the girls, we noted that Widel Zofia from Poland and Kutsenko Vasylysa from Ukraine were likely to be among the leaders. Misane Malvine was the default favorite. Once again, our prediction came true 100%. Our experts have been flawless through Round 7.

In the older age groups, it’s hard to predict the final top three, but we hope that Fortunato Matteo from Italy and Ali Banu from Azerbaijan will maintain their lead and win the U-26 divisions.
