The 51st Mori City Cup — “Giuseppe Manzana” Memorial
Mori (Italian: Mori) is a municipality in Italy, located in the Province of Trento, in the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige. It has a population of 9,456 (2011) and a population density of 267 people per square kilometer. It covers an area of 34 km². The patron saint of the municipality is Saint Stephen the Protomartyr, whose feast day is celebrated on December 26.
This town is hosting the annual tournament featuring legendary players for the 51st time. Alexander Shvartsman was invited again this year.
We’re a little late to the party, but we’d still like to highlight this tournament, which is taking place in a small Italian town. All of Italy’s top players took part in it. It’s also worth noting that, as part of their preparation for the upcoming World Youth Championship in China, the tournament featured young and talented medalists from the recent European Championship.
There were live broadcasts and a beautiful awards ceremony. But… We’d like to draw attention to the dress code. Unfortunately, once again it must be noted that draughts players, while engaged in an intellectual game, completely forget about their appearance and basic etiquette. It’s very sad.
Otherwise… we’re looking forward to next year’s tournament in Mori.
