Only he can do that… and not just at the Hoogeven Open
The traditional annual tournament is taking place in Hogeven. Once again, we witnessed a small miracle on the board, right in the first round. Alexander Shvartsman, in his own unique style, sacrificed a checker and continued playing without it, applying a bit of pressure on his opponent. But the miracles on the board didn’t end there. The charming Nicole de Vries showed remarkable composure in the second round during a tense endgame against Alexander Shvartsman and managed to draw a difficult game. It’s also worth noting that Yulia Bintsarovska is participating in the tournament. She walked straight from the airplane to the tournament hall. We noted her character at the recent European Youth Draughts Championship in Tallinn. After losing in the middle of the tournament in the Blitz section, Yulia Bintsarovska pulled herself together and won three of her last four games, deservedly becoming the champion.
