My eyes are darting around… What do you think, Elon Musk?
A little official information: “How do you like that, Elon Musk?” is a Russian-language internet meme that appeared in late 2017 or early 2018 and mocks absurd inventions. After its appearance, it became one of the most popular memes in Russia and also gained some traction in the English-speaking world. The meaning of the meme is to publish a photo with a certain “life hack” that challenges American engineer and entrepreneur Elon Musk.
Now let’s turn to facts from the world of checkers. Looking at the tables for the semifinals of the Mongolian International Checkers Championship, we were almost speechless and unable to comprehend what was happening. After all, a total of 400 people are participating in the semifinals! 400, Carl! There are 240 participants in the men’s competition and 160 in the women’s competition. This is where we repeat the famous meme: “What do you think, Elon Musk?”
Now, with joy at what we have seen and shock at what is happening, let’s ask ourselves a mathematical question: How many rounds need to be held to obtain statistically significant values and maintain the necessary correlation? And a very simple question: How many participants make it to the finals?
And now we are not surprised by the successful performances of Mongolian draughts players at world championships. Let’s watch and cheer for the leaders.
