Competitions with respect and dignity
“To fight and seek, to find and not to yield” is the motto of decency and loyalty to one’s goals and principles. These are the words that characterize Leszek Petlicki, the organizer of the World and European Championships. It’s time for the next World Cup. The struggle began in Kemer, Turkey.
The history of the appearance of the saying included in the title:
The original source is the poem “Ulysses” by the English poet Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892).
These lines were carved on the tombstone, which was erected (January 1913) in Antarctica at the top of “Observer Hill” in memory of the English polar explorer Robert Scott (1868-1912). Striving to reach the South Pole first, he nevertheless came to it second, three days after the Norwegian pioneer Roald Amudsen visited it. Robert Scott died on the way back.
These words became popular in Russian after the publication of the novel “Two Captains” by Veniamin Kaverin (1902-1989). The main character of the novel, Sanya Grigoriev, who dreams of polar hikes, makes these words the motto of his whole life.
And Turkey hosts the World Cup, as always, in several categories. You can watch the friendly atmosphere on the video files posted on the organization’s website. In the meantime, we will introduce you to the results.
