Breaking in at the speed of wind and winning every time (and also about the IOC decision)
Once you climb Mount Olympus, set yourself the task of staying there. The most difficult and sometimes impossible task for many talented and capable draughts players is to stay at the top. Roman Shchukin manages to do this at every major tournament. As do two talented draughts players from the Republic of Belarus: Andrei Valyuk and Artem Tikhonov.
The classical program at the World Cup Final has just ended, and now the Rapid and Blitz tournaments are underway. The battle for medals has reignited with renewed vigor.
It is worth noting Nikita Slavyanov’s successful performance in the Rapid program. We will wait for his results in the Blitz program. But the most important thing happened far from the scenes of the championship. Important news came from the IOC regarding athletes from Russia and the Republic of Belarus. So:
The IOC confirmed that the recommendation of March 28, 2023 no longer applies to Russian and Belarusian participants in youth competitions and that they are once again allowed to compete under their national symbols, with their flag and anthem and without any additional checks.
International federations themselves set the criteria for determining “youth competitions,” but in all such competitions, both individual and team, participation must be ensured without additional restrictions. These rules, subject to the reinstatement of the ROC, will also apply to the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar in 2026.
