One, two, three – king me! Combination like a surprise (part two)
Sometimes you believe that a grandmaster never falls for combinations. And even more so for one move combinations. But no – an illusion! Even grandmasters sometimes get caught!
In our section ‘From simple to hard’ we always wonder, if it is really all from real games. Is it possible? ‘It is possible!’ we say and offer the fragments from the games of the recent SCO tournament in Ufa. It was already in the first games of rapid and blitz when we saw all kinds of combinations. From a simple “Arrow” to… However, see for yourself!
Combination “Arrow” | |
Elena Milshina – Zhao Hanqing, round 14, game 1, rapid
At the very beginning of the game white began to build the ‘Chizhov’s cannon’ with a move 36-31. And black’s desire to ‘tie up the wing’ was followed by a simple combination!
Almost the same combination, but in a more difficult position
Aygul Idrisova – Shakhzoda Tursunmurotova, round 1, game 1, rapid
A training example similar to the position from the book. Black’s monolithic position only seems reliable. There are practically no moves.
Grandmaster’s carelessness in one move (different motives)
Tamara Tansykkuzhina – Shakhzoda Tursunmurotova, round 22, game 1, blitz
Defending almost the entire game and getting a passive position, black made a fatal mistake.
Sukhbat Tsogtbaatar – Murodullo Amrillaev, round 13, game 2, rapid
You cannot often see how Murodullo Amrillaev falls for a combination, especially the ‘Royal blow’!
Magic of Aygul and Matryona
Aygul Idrisova – Enkhtuya Gombosuren, round 22, game 1, blitz
In a passive position black took a step towards white’s combination. 1. … 11-17?? 2. 37-31 36×27 3. 24-19 13×24 4. 29×20 25×14 5. 28-22 17×28 6. 33×02 x |
Wu Hailan – Aygul Idrisova, round 7, game 1, rapid
An unnoticeable and very beautiful combination due to the unpredictable move of 18-23! Bravo, Aygul!
Matryona Nogovicina – Khuslen Enkhbold, round 10, game 1, rapid
Matryona seemed to hypnotize her rival and made a classical combination.
And this is a hypnotic action performed by Chinese draughts players
Li Zhenyu – Zeng Qianrang, round 3, game 3, rapid
As if mesmerized by their position, white made a move 42-38 and… lost.
And a highlight from Alexander Georgiev on the topic “Beauty will save the world”
Alexander Georgijev – Erdenbileg Tserenbyamba, round 13, game 1, rapid
The cultural shock was experienced by Alexander Georgiev’s rival. Six draughts’ pieces were removed from the board!
