First steps on the big board: Getting to know the Reichenbach strike. Part

09.02.2026

When taking their first steps on the large board, every beginner draughts player learns about a variety of combination mechanisms that can be used in their game. One of the next combination moves in the compulsory training program is the Reichenbach move.

The Reichenbach blow is usually performed in the classic position. We will show you the first examples, but try to solve the last positions yourself.

Let’s get started with the training!

Example 1

Reichenbach’s move is similar to two basic moves on a large board in classical positions: the “King’s move” and Philip’s move. However, Reichenbach’s move has an unforgettable “hook.”

  1. 33-29  24:22
  2. 34-30  25:34
  3. 40:7
Example 2

In the Reichenbach strike, the direct action of the striking mechanism is carried out by a group of checkers called “Olympic.”

  1. 22-17  21:12
  2. 33-29! (“hook”)  24:22
  3. 35-30  25:34
  4. 40:7
Example 3

To reinforce the material, let’s repeat it once more.

  1. 27-22  18:27
  2. 33-29  24:22
  3. 35-30  25:34
  4. 40:7
