On command – stand still!
This weekend, the Baltic states are hosting national team championships in various types of draughts. It is noteworthy that Lithuania, unlike Estonia and Latvia, is holding a national championship in Russian draughts. One of the teams includes a legend making his return to big-time sport – Kybartas, Andrius.
Latvia is hosting a team championship in international draughts on a large board. There are two or three clear favorites that will share the top spots. One of these teams is the Misans family trio, which has an unmatched advantage over the crumbling draughts scene within the country. The teams from Sigulda, Limbaži, and Kuldīga will not be revived. However, this is no longer of interest.
Seven teams have gathered in Estonia for the team championship. This is surprising for us, considering that there may soon be no coaches left in the country. And this general trend for all countries in the Baltic region will continue to worsen over the next 3-5 years.
