Did you think we were out of draughts on the big board? Really?!….
More and more often, we hear people saying that draughts on a large board is dying out. Utopian sentiments are becoming increasingly common, and it must be admitted that there are several reasons for this. Cuts—and sometimes a complete cessation—of funding for draughts activities (regardless of the variant) have affected numerous national federations around the world. Only three proud federations are writing letters and standing up bare-assed in protests for the sake of a hollow movement, hoping to play “spin the bottle” among the three of them. Meanwhile, draughts is undergoing a severe crisis. On the large board.
But despite the inappropriate behavior of the international federation’s former leaders and the fact that they have reduced the World Championships to a state of absurdity, people continue to play draughts on a large board. And we would like to express our respect for those players, referees, and organizers who, despite the pressure and lack of adequate funding, support their national championships and strive… strive to preserve their unique, strong, and independent schools.
Today we are publishing the results of the Russian International Draughts Championship, which has just begun. And even though there are few participants, we for our part want to support all the participants in the Championship. It is precisely their love for their sport that keeps draughts alive.
A little later, we will take a brief economic look at our sport.
