For the sixth year in a row, draughts players from Latvia and Lithuania haven’t traveled anywhere or hosted anyone. They’ve been stuck in their villages and hamlets for six years, trying not to look ridiculous. It doesn’t just look poor—sometimes it looks downright shabby. But they’re known for their resilience in draughts. They’re incredible masochists. It’s probably worth reminding everyone that those “wronged” by fate aren’t exactly the highest caste in certain places.

And we’ll be celebrating a new draughts festival in Turkey.
