The national championship in men’s international draughts has ended in the Netherlands. It is noteworthy that Alexander Shvartsman, who plays under the flag of Israel, took part in it. This added intrigue to the course of the championship, where another player represented the Soviet school. And … what a player!
There have been small rotations of players, and the most notable is the transfer of Guntis Valneris from the VBI Huissen club to the Damcombinatie Fryslân club. In the first round these teams met each other. Guntis has won his former teammate.
The annual tournaments in Mori are held rapidly in Italian. Alexander Shvartsman has been coming to them for many years in a row. Two busy days in the Rapid and Blitz program will show us who is stronger this year.
The French International Draughts Championship has begun. As usual, we bet on Cordier, Arnaud, but this year, the inventive Mbongo, Thomy Lucien, may become the champion. He has already won the Blitz program, although Cordier, Arnaud, lost only by a coefficient.
Back in 1981, the Czech Republic hosted the “Golden Prague” international tournament for the first time. At that time, a very young Heinar Yahu (at the age of 45) won the first tournament in Prague. From the first line-up this year Krista, Vaclav, and Sysel, Jiri, are playing. And they are always in the ranks of Czech draughts. In 1998 Vaclav Krista donated his prize to the Czech Draughts federation.
We recently wrote about the Dutch approach to the draughts learning process. And not only the theoretical component of this approach affects the result, but also the practical part. Dutch boys and girls constantly take part in adult competitions with classical control.

Reviewing the results of the European Championship among boys and girls in the classical program, we once again note the high-quality and professional approach of the Dutch team to draughts. In the senior groups draughts players from the Netherlands practically do not meet competition.
We are close to a new method of conducting tournaments. The fact is that according to some heads-psychologists of the proud federation, the opening of the competition is a great stress. And therefore the opening of the competition cannot be combined on the same day with the first round. At the moment one of the proud federations begins to hold the opening 5 hours before the start of the first round. This is a success! Most likely an extra day will be allocated for the opening of the tournament in the future!
