Salou is a seaside resort and tourist destination in Catalonia, Spain, located approximately 10 kilometers from Tarragona on the “Golden Coast” — the Costa Dorada — and just over 92 kilometers from Barcelona. Set apart from the endless chain of beaches, interspersed with rocky caves and coves, and picturesque lawns, the main attraction is the massive PortAventura theme park, which once belonged to the American film studio Universal Studios.
Every year, in the same place, one of the most popular tournaments in the world of draughts takes place. Elderly grandmasters sit around sipping delicious morning cocktails and engaging in small talk. They discuss life in general and, just a little bit, draughts.
