And no one will break them or deceive them, as happened in Riga in 2025.
The World Veterans Championship is currently taking place in France. There are significant differences from last year’s championship, which was held in Riga. First, there are significantly more participants compared to last year. Second, this championship will feature prizes and medals in the 50+ category. Last year, representatives of the Latvian Federation, which hosted the World Championship, deceived many participants…
Let’s recall some historical facts: Last year, in Riga, the field of participants was small. Local representatives of the Latvian Federation did everything in their power—by fair means or foul—to persuade local draughts players to take part in the World Championship. In the end, trusting the local leadership, some decided to play because they were promised prizes in the 50+ category. But… the organizers deceived both the local draughts players and those who had traveled from other countries. A strange situation arose in which, for the first time at the World Veterans Championships, an entire category was ignored.
Things will be different in France. And this is precisely what distinguishes their approach to organizing tournaments and demonstrates their attitude toward our sport and toward draughts players. So let’s keep an eye on the results.
