When your friends are with you (Rapid)
As the old saying goes: ‘You don’t need enemies with friends like these!’. We have already written about the tournament organized by U. Poom last year. He has been organizing it for several years and supporting the draughts club in his city. However,
By renaming his tournament to please his “friends” and adding some lines to the tournament regulations that were already known to everyone, he was unable to increase the number of participants in any way. Is this a paradox? No, it is a reality.
As organizers of draughts tournaments, we sincerely sympathize to U. Poom. In the draughts community it is hard to find appreciative spectators. Instead, we often encounter ‘true and principled friends’ and ‘partners’.
So that’s why they renamed the author’s tournament and gave it such a grandiose name? For whom? In the end:
- From one partner country: one judge plus one player (family pairs cannot be counted).
- From the second country: one player plus the repressed Boris Druzhinin.
- The rest of the players are personal connections and the friendly part of the players who are organizer’s friends.
Maybe we should change something? Or maybe we should change someone?
A realistic conclusion is that these three “partner” federations will never be able to come to an agreement and create something constructive. Plus, there’s that brown color. And yes, investing in draughts and these proud federations is like throwing pearls before swine. It’s a futile and hopeless endeavor.
