The Estonian International Draughts Championship
The country’s international draughts championships have recently ended in Estonia. The denouement of the fight for medals came two rounds before the end of the championships. The penultimate round became the key round for men, and the last round was culmination amongst women.
In the penultimate round Keir-Christian Sugul, who had been leading for a long time, lost to the experienced Kaido Leesmann, who did not miss his chance to become champion, having convincingly played in the last round. But, nevertheless, we note the progress and success of Keir-Christian Sugul – he is persistently moving towards the champion’s title, constantly taking part in major international tournaments. Soon we will see him in Turkey at the European Championship organized by the IDF.
In the women’s competition everything was decided in the last round. Experienced Piret Viirma literally wrested the champion’s title from Kaari Vainonen and became the champion of Estonia once again.
