This weekend, the Baltic states are hosting national team championships in various types of draughts. It is noteworthy that Lithuania, unlike Estonia and Latvia, is holding a national championship in Russian draughts. The country’s international draughts championships have recently ended in Estonia. The denouement of the fight for medals came two rounds before the end of the championships. The penultimate round became the key round for men, and the last round was culmination amongst women.
More recently, a new draughts club has appeared in Estonia. The national championship has become more interesting and intense. In addition, recent children grow up and begin to win victories over authorities.
Although the number of participants was small, it is much more than at the semi-finals of Latvia. It is pleasant to note that young players have started to appear in the winners. We are sincerely happy for Polina and Martin.
After looking at the composition of the next international tournament in Yogeva, we again came to the conclusion that there is no solidarity between the three proud federations. And the organizers of the tournaments should only calculate the losses from such activities-inactivity.
Heinar Jahu has already turned 91 years old and he’s still in good playing shape. And in the Estonian blitz championship he took the honorable 8th place.
After looking at the composition of the upcoming Estonian international draughts championships we have sen new names and new clubs. Which we were sincerely glad about! The Estonian championships in Russian draughts ended predictably enough. Arno Uutma became the champion of Estonia for the 27th time, and Kari Vainonen became the champion of Estonia among women.
