Vyacheslav Shchegolev has passed away!

On October, 9th, 2022 at the age of 82 Vyacheslav Shchegolev passed away after a long illness.

One of the greatest draughts players, one of the most honest players on the draughts board has passed away. We consider it superfluous to add some words. We will just copy  a small quote from Vasily Khristich’s article.

‘And, thirdly, his unconditional struggle against ‘collectivism’ and ‘agreements’ at draughts tournaments. For many years, being a participant of the most prestigious competitions, Shchegolev has faced these phenomena repeatedly. He has never been a member of one or another ‘group’ and directly showed a negative attitude to these frauds in his critical articles and statements. Of course, not always and not all of these articles ended up in print. But for them, bumps regularly rained down on the head of the capital’s grandmaster. Nevertheless, Vyacheslav Ivanovich has never changed his views on this issue. The whole life is a struggle, and not only on the board!”
